Program Overview
 

The Theologian Training aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in the following areas:

• Gurmat Theology: Understanding the complete and holistic theological framework of Gurmat at a deep level, as drawn directly from Gurbani.
   

• Gurbani Viyakaran, Pingal & Viyakhya: Learning to interpret Gurbani through its grammar, language, and poetic systems.
   

• Akhand Paath Fluency: Developing high proficiency and fluency in the recitation of all of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
   

• Sikh Ithyaas (History): Understanding the full picture of Sikh history in alignment with Gurmat theological principals, while having the background knowledge to address misconceptions and inaccuracies in common narratives.
   

• Spirituality & Philosophy: Examining spirituality, metaphysics, and philosophy through the writings of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji and other classical Sikh thinkers.
   

• Comparative Religions: Formulate a robust defense of Gurmat by critically examining the history and theological frameworks of major world religions. (New)
   

• Additional Topics: Selected smaller subjects as they arise.
   

 

Structure

Lectures and Study

This year we will provide a platform for self-paced study while allowing all students to have the opportunity to attend live, remote lectures on requested topics. Students will also have access to a platform for asking questions and engaging in forum discussions. ​Resources will be provided for studying in either Punjabi or English this year, with the option to request lectures in either language. Lectures will be scheduled based on interest.

Gurbani Training

A core aspect of this training is the Akhand Paathi practice. All students will be expected to report weekly on their progress, and any student who fails to do this consistently will be dispelled from the program.

Certification

Only students who complete the final examination will be honored with certification. However, examination is optional, and applicants are welcomed to participate in the course without seeking certification.

Commitment and Expectations​​

 

The program will run from September 2026 to September 2027. There will be no mandatory lectures this year (all students have the option to request lectures on specific topics), but the Akhand Paath practice will be required in order to continue having access to the study platform and live discussions.

 

Just like any university course, the program requires commitment. Expect to dedicate at least 15 hours of your time towards the program each week.
